Doodles will be grouped by the students' class groups. Class groups are broken down as follows:
Primary School
- Group 1: Junior Infants, Senior Infants
- Group 2: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Class
- Group 3: 4th, 5th, 6th Class
Secondary School
- Group 4: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Year
- Group 5: Transition Year, 5th, 6th Year, Youthreach
Competition levels
300 semi-finalists
Google employees will select the best 15 doodles from each of our five class groups across each of the four regions in the Republic of Ireland. Our regions are the four provinces: Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connaught.
75 Finalists
We will have our guest judges select the 75 finalists across the class groups and regions.
5 Class Group Winners
The public will be asked to vote online for their favourite doodle from each judging group to help select the five class group winners.
1 Overall Winner
Our official Google doodle team, made up of Google web designers, will select the winning doodle from the five class group winners. The winner will be announced in a prize-giving ceremony and the winning doodle will be shown on the Google homepage in Ireland for 24 hours in April 2017.
Prizes
300 Semi-finalists
Semi-finalists will receive a Doodle 4 Google certificate.
75 Finalists
Finalists will receive an invitation to the prize-giving event in April where our winners are announced. They will also receive a framed copy of their doodle, a T-shirt personalised with the image of their doodle, and a Google goody bag. Their doodle will appear on our website for the public vote.
5 Class Group Winners
Each class group winner will receive a Chromebook as will their teacher.
1 Overall Winner
The overall winner will have their doodle shown on the Google homepage in Ireland for 24 hours in April 2017. The winner will also receive a €5,000 college scholarship and their school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.
Judging Criteria
Doodles will be judged based on the following three categories:
- Artistic Merit: based on grade group and artistic skill.
- Creativity: based on the representation of the theme and use of the Google logo.
- Theme Communication: How clearly the competition theme is expressed in both the artwork and the written statement.
Disqualifications
- Entries submitted into the wrong class group will be disqualified.
- Doodles will be disqualified if copyrighted or trademarked images and logos are used.
- Only one application per student please. If more than one is submitted only the first will be considered and those thereafter will be disqualified.
- There is a limit of six entries per school.
